Solthis is an international medical NGO invested in Health System Strengthening (HSS) and whose objective is to build the capacities of the actors in charge of major components of the HSS : : care services (medical and paramedical staff, midwives, therapeutic educators and psycho-social workers, etc.); laboratory (technicians, etc.); pharmacy (procurement, logistics supply chain teams, pharmacist, etc.); the health information system; and lastly the coordination bodies (Ministry of Health and its DHMT; CCM; national networks of PLHIV)
To meet this objective in Sierra Leone, Solthis is implementing a Project of empowerment of National Network of PLHIV and Health Care Workers, named « EMPOWER » and is looking for a Pediatric Care Manager.
Assignment
Under the supervision of Solthis Head of Mission, the Pediatric Care Manager will be assigned to provide capacity building to health care workers (HCW) and authorities involved in pediatric HIV for counseling, testing, diagnosis, prophylaxis, treatment and care in order to improve their ability to care, treat and follow up HIV exposed and infected children. In addition, he/she will continue to support the implementation of Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT), with the aim of strengthening maternal and child HIV/AIDS health services within targeted hospitals and clinic settings.
Tasks and responsibilities
Support to national and / or district coordination bodies
Provide Technical support to the national strategic discussions regarding pediatric HIV (for both exposed and infected children), scaling up and decentralization of HIV pediatric care and PMTCT activities in Sierra Leone
Participate to the elaboration and updates of national pediatrics and PMTCT HIV guidelines and recommendations
Contribute to the elaboration of tools for data collection and adherence support for infected and exposed children, as well as pregnant and breastfeeding women
In collaboration with the pharmacy team, contribute to discussions on and elaboration of expanded access to pediatric formulations of anti-retrovirals and treatment for opportunistic infections
Improve Capacity of healthcare workers in 12 facilities, to enable them to provide PMTCT and pediatric good quality care
Conduct participatory diagnosis workshop for the requirements of all supported healthcare facilities in improving the taking of patients' needs into account
Implement and Follow up the road map for improved Pediatric quality of care in 12 facilities.
Build Capacity for Health Workers with respect to Pediatric care and PMTCT: Trainings, post training follow-up, internship, clinical mentoring
Contribute to creating and strengthening of functional Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) systems following IPC strengthening during Ebola epidemic.
Participate to medical staff meetings in supported sites (and organize them if necessary)
Organize and conduct on sites trainings according to identified needs
Provide on-site clinical mentoring to reinforce HCW skills & capacities
Provide on-site advice to improve organizational aspects
Participate to train other actors according to identified needs (associations, community, Management teams…)
Contribute to the involvement and coordination of all actors
Provide support for data management and analysis
Classroom trainings
Assess the trainings needs of the different type of health workers
Participate to the elaboration of course program for HCW involved in testing, counseling, prophylaxis, care and treatment
Participate to the elaboration of course program for HCW about TB/HIV co-infection
Organize and conduct trainings
Participate to the evaluation of training activities
Operational research
Participate to the elaboration of research protocols
Implement and follow up research projects
Check the quality of data collected in situ
Coordinate the actors involved in the projects
Draw up reports in collaboration with the Medical Director
Staff Management
Provide direct supervision of the PMTCT Officer
Set the objectives, follow up and assessment for PMTCT activities across all sites
Coordinate activities between the different team members with respect to implementation of PMTCT activities
Reporting
Participate to the elaboration of monthly and quarterly reports
Participate to Solthis annual programming session
Qualifications:
Pediatrician or medical doctor with experience in pediatric care and PMTCT
Experience in HIV/AIDS highly desirable
Experience in management of TB/HIV coinfection
Knowledge in public health and in clinical research
Experience in resource-limited settings would be an added value
Experience in training would be an added value
Fluent English
Conditions :
Location : Freetown, Sierra Leone
Type of contract: VSI or CDD
Length of contract : 6 months (renewable)
Starting date : December, 2016
Salary: according to professional experience + package (medical and repatriation insurance, transport, common accommodation, monthly living allowance 610€).
