In Kenya CCM is working in Nairobi County with the Project“BORESHA MAISHA. Alternatives of life for street children and underage refugees In Nairobi”implemented by the International NGOs CCM and GRT in Mlango Kubwa in partnership with the Starehe Sub County Children and Health Offices. The overall objective of the Project is to contribute to improve the psycho-physical wellbeing and the social inclusion of vulnerable children in Nairobi County by: (i) activating mechanisms of health and social protection, rehabilitation and community reintegration of street and refugee children from Mlango Kubwa and Eastleigh (ii) improving the quality of social and health services for vulnerable groups from Mlango Kubwa and Eastleigh (iii)increasing the awareness ofcommunities on the issues of social and health need through the empowerment of street children and refugee minors (iv) enhancing the institutional skills in safeguarding the rights and improving the support to street children and refugee minors.

Duty station: Mlango Kubwa and Eastleigh, Starehe Sub County, Nairobi

Type: LOCAL POSITION (Kenyan Nationals Only)

Contract duration: up to December 2017, renewable

Starting date: August 2017

Main Responsibilities

Being the project dealing with street/refugee children and youth, , we will consider for this position ONLY candidates with strong experience with street youth and children, both in street work and provision of psychosocial and emotional support (better if sustained by certificates). We will privilege dynamic professionals with experience in sport and recreational activities as a tool for street children/youth rehabilitation, ready to work in informal settings. S/he will report to CCM project coordinator, in Nairobi.

  • Following the project activities and results that focus on the need of using sport activities as mean to involve and empower youth and children, and improve their health and well-being, promote a participatory design of weekly-sport activities plans that suit their needs and daily commitments;
  • In close collaboration with other project partners and team members, conduct and participate in the outreach activities in the streets with the children/youth beneficiaries;

· Liaise with social workers and counsellors involved in the project referring children/youth to be involved in rehabilitation programmes when needed;

  • Provide emotional and psychosocial support to children and youth or eventually refer them to adequate services for proper care, when needed;
  • In close collaboration with other project team members, ensure the proper organisation, implementation and monitoring of project activities, particularly in reference to sport and awareness events and tournaments;
  • Support project team members in effective communication, mobilization and networking with other relevant organizations for referrals and support in the rescue, rehabilitation and reintegration of beneficiaries;

· Actively cooperate with the Project Coordinator to ensure that the special contributions and annual missions of international project partners, and in particular international sport educators, are fully integrated and in line with the ongoing sport programmes;

  • Prepare annual and monthly work plans as well as monthly progress and data activities reports, to be promptly submitted to the Project Coordinator as per an agreed calendar;
  • Prepare accounting records, inventory and asset registers, monthly financial reports and budget requests, to be promptly submitted to the pc for monthly requisition and liquidations;
  • Actively participate in the monthly meetings with the project team;
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Project Coordinator;

· Collaborate with the project team for the timely and effective implementation of project activities.

Profile Requirements

Qualifications

· Degree or Diploma in Social Work or related field;

· University studies or certified background in Sport Science, in Art and Science, in Special Needs are an asset

Main Requirements

· At least 3 years’ experience in street work/working with vulnerable street children and youth;

· At least 2 years’ experience in street children/youth rehabilitation through sport/arts

· Experience in street outreach programmes and work with the local communities;

· Good experience with different social methodology’s experiences

· Good knowledge of children rights and abuse;

· Experience in dealing with local authorities and collaborating with stakeholders

· Strong ability to analyse the context and needs;

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills at all levels

· Capable of working pro-actively in team and independently

· Demonstrated experience in capacity building and training;

· Flexibility and willingness to work in informal settings.

· Strong leadership:

· Excellent trustful working attitude;

· Fluent spoken and written English;

· Able to write accurate reports and minutes;

· Excellent computer literacy;

Desirable Requirements

· Working experience or familiarity with Mlango Kubwa area;
